Alpine Skiing
I read a article about Alpine skiing.Contestents have an go against each other. The skis that were used a long time were plain with no design.
We should cheer for the players. We should suport the players. At the end of the game the winner gets a gold medal.Secand gets bronze.Third gets silver. It happens ever 4 years. They bind so the wind won't slow them down. They ware tight suits to go faster. The most medals was on day 11 of the games.

Artists In Antarctica
I read a article that was really interesting it was about artists going to Antarctica and meeting scientists there while working together.
There was two artists that wanted to go to Antarctica and ended up going there.
The artists and scientists are connected to each other because they worked together in Antarctica and found a lot of research. The exploration is changing by scientists doing studies to artists getting inspired by the Antarctica. My teachers perspective is that she thinks these artists are great risk-takers. It must be hard to leave a life of comfort to go explore a for off inhibited land. She thinks the filming and photos will be interesting to see. she loves documentaries and their perspective on topics. I think that it must be amazing to go there and see artists and scientists working together and doing research together. My responsibility is to try to work with someone that I haven't worked with and maybe get good ideas from them like the artists and scientists.I learned that the artists are working together with scientists. Interview
Caprice: What do you think about this article and why?
Mrs.Ledger: Being a fan of photography, I think it is very important to document what Antarctica is like before humans impacted it.
Caprice: What do you think about scientists and artists working together?
Mrs.Ledger: I think scientists are there to collect data and facts where as artists are there to portray feelings and emotions.
Caprice: How can artists get inspired by scientists?

How Fit Are Young Teens?
How Fit Are Young Teens?
Studies show that kids or young teens aren't getting enough exercise. This may be caused by all of the modern day technology that young teens in America have like I Pads,I Phones,Playstations, and the X Box .What causes this problem? The things that cause this is when teens don't get their hour of exercise. What also causes this is when schools cut part of recess for learning or when teens over eat. Studies show that schools that have longer recesses might have more students passing. This problem works when young teens eat way to much fast food and don't work it off. It also works when teens have a lack of exercise and unhealthy habits. The points of view on this is the kids who think their hygene isn't important , and schools point of view that time at school should be spent learning not playing. This is changing over time when more technology comes out and kids want to stay indoors and unactive.Teens should make sure they get enough exercise and have healthy eating habits. I asked a PE coach on this and she said kids arent getting enough excercise because yhe dont eat right and they dont exercise. She thinks our day should be extended for 20 minutes so kids can get more recess put into their day and potintaly get their hour of play at school.
Most boys like basketball
Most girls like track.Nelson Mandela
Do you know who Nelson Mandela is?
I do. Here is what I learned.
Nelson Mandela died on December 5, 2013 at the age of Eighty three (83).
HE SPENT MOST OF HIS life in prison for one protest about CIVIL RIGHTS.That is not a very good reason. He divorced three (3) times. In prison he was diagnosed with tubercubished. He died at his own house in 2013.
I hope you enjoyed this!

Take A Stand
I read the most interesting article about students taking a stand. A 10 year old girl has been raising money for kids in other countries who don't have many freedoms and opportunities. Vivienne raises money by making lemonade during rain or shine. The cause is that Vivienne saw a picture of two boys carrying large rocks on their backs and thought that it wasn't fair for them to not have the same freedom and opportunities as her and many other children.Vivienne has been taking action and showing alot of empathy by putting her shoes into their shoes and feeling what they probrably feel."My perspective is that I think that Vivienne is doing a great job by showing empathy to kids that should get the same rights as her". "My teacher perspective is that Vivienne is a very principled person & I love how she took action even if it didn't directly benefit her. Theses are the people that make the world such a better place". "I agree with the founding fathers in that this country was created to provide freedom.I think that includes all men , woman and ,children .I think as long as you work hard and push yourself opportunities will come to you.If I could change the world like Vivienne I would work to have all kids experience challenging education that prepares them for life experiences.I also feel that kids that don't get freedom and opportunities have so much to offer but are not allowed". Since then , Vivienne has raised alot more money and has a better chance of reaching her goal to get kids the right freedom and opportunities all around the world. Our responsibility is to try making the world a better place by taking action just like Vivienne has raised for kids. Our lessson is that children all around the world suffer from poverty and they should get right choices.

Black History Month
What is Black History Month?
Black history month is celebrated during February each year. It was originally called Negro History week. I was founded by Carter G. Woodson in 1926. It was founded in February in honor of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas. It was founded to celebrate and document black life and the achievements of black people. Woodson was a member of the Fraternity of Omega Psi Phi Inc.which was in its infancy.
How is it celebrated?
It is celebrated by honoring black life and black people of the past and present. By acknowledging their achievements and living up to those by doing well in school. I like Martin Luther King Jr. and I would like to be like him. I would also like to be like Barack Obama. I admire them because they fought for freedom and our rights. In St. Louis Missouri my grandfather, Wendell H.Goins, started a union for black firefighters to protect their rights. This year that union, F.I.R.E., is 50 years old. F.I.R.E. stands for Firefighters Institution for Racial Equality. They won many court battles so that all firefighters are equal in the city of St. Louis. I like black history month because is important to know your history so that you know where you are going in life.
How am I connected?
I admire my grandpa and my dad for what they do and have done in their lives. I celebrate them when I celebrate black history month. I also honor them by working hard in school. I like getting good grades. I would like to do something like they did, in my life too. I never met my grandfather because he died August 25, 2003 about 2 months before is was born but my father talks about him all the time. My uncle published a book about him. The name of the book is " We Want Them All" the history of African Americans in the St. Louis fire department. My father is a lawyer and he goes to court and fights for people's rights. I been to court with him several times and I have talked to the judges but they have not let me see the back of the jail yet. They said I am too young they will let me see it when I get older.
How is history changing?
Black people have rights now because of these people hard work: Martin Luther King Jr., Barack Obama, Wendell H. Goins and Steven M. Goins. Did you know I was named after my father? All people can go to school together and play together. We can drink from the same water fountain, We can ride the bus together. That was impossible in the past. Our society today is better because of black history. We are realizing Martin Luther King dream. I really like his speech.

Trouble in Egypt
Hello and welcome back.We really thank everybody who visited our blog and read our pieces of writing. The current events club in St.George Place Elemantry school has researched new topics about current events happening around the world. This time you will be hearing about a serious and sad conflict that has been happening in Egypt since 2013.
What is it?
It is a protest for Mohamed Morsi, Egypt's president, to come out of jail. It is also a protest for peoples rights because the Egyptian citizens want the military out of the country. They don't want the military but the goverment isn't giving a choice so people have to protest to get their rights.
What are people doing in the protests?

Millions of citizens have been in the streets hanging posters, doing speeches, and have been yelling"We want Morsi".The military of Egypt have taken over the government and was unfair to the citizens. They have killed people while they were prayer.
What is the circumstance that caused the conflict?
The cause of this conflict,as mentioned above, happened when Egypt's president, Mohamed Morsi, was thrown in jail.Another circumstance that caused this conflict is wants and desire because the citizens wanted their president out of jail and the army to go back but the army wants to stay and take charge of Egypt.
What is it connected to?
The protests in Egypt is connected to other conflict that has or had been happened. For example, the protest for Gezi Parki at Turkey and the protests in Ukraine have similar impacts and similar reactions so thats why the protests in Egypt is connected to other protests.
How is it changing?
The protests have been really changing but the way the army acts to people act has actually changed because now the army kills more citizens and they act like they own the place. But citizens are not giving up and are doing every thing they could to stand for what they believe and will always try new ways to communicate their message.
What are the points of view?
There are many views for the protests in Egypt. Some people think that its all the protesters fault that had started this conflict and these people call the protesters"terrorists".Some people think that it is the militaries fault and they have been acting too harsh to citizens. And some people think that its neither sides fault and they want the conflict to end peacefully. My opinion of this conflict is that the citizens have every right to protest for their president to come out of jail and it is the military should consider the publics thoughts and feelings.
What is our responsibility?
Our responsibility is that first of all we should be caring to all people and no matter what they do we should understand them. Our second responsibility is to be good role-models to young children and not do what the Egyptian military is doing. Our third responsibility is to send donations like money, food, water, clothes, etc. There are many programs and places that travel your donations straight to Egypt.
Interesting Facts
We appreciate your reading and want you to read more of our articles about current events in the world. We also appreciate everybody who visited our blog and want everyone to see our blog. Not only would you learn information but also have a great time reading our articles.

Biggest camp for Syrian refugees:Zaatari
Do you ever wonder what happens to Syrian refugees? This paper is about a refugee camp in Jordan that helps Syrian refugees and it is called Zaatari. It is a camp that helps refugees from Syria.
People from all over the world come to this camp to help these refugees from Syria, also people send donations and supplies to help these refugees.
There is a civil war in Syria that has been going for almost 3 years. The goverment of Syria is killing people and terrorizing towns.People escape from this war and settle on refugee camps to be safe.
There are other refugees that are from Iraq,Afghanistan, and Palastine. Also, a foundation thats called Unicef helps refugees all over the world
from all over the world.
Since it is not that old there arent many changes in the camp. But people are sending more donations, which helps the camp members come up with new ideas for the refugees because of the help they re getting
Almost all the people in the world think that this refugee camp is a good thing for syrian refugees. But some people think it is a bad thing and that the refugees from Syria should be brought to the United States of America.
Our responsibility is that we should send donations to this camp to help Syrian refugees. And there are a lot of foundations that take your donation to the refugee camp.
Some cool facts I learned in this research is that about 120,000 people live in the camp called Zaatari. Also I learned that people there live in tents and there are only 3 schools for kids education.
We appreciate your reading and want you to continue reading our articles and passages currently happening in the world.Hope to see you next time.

NASA DEBATE
Did you know that in 2011 NASA retired its shuttles? Now U.S. astronauts travel on a Russain space craft each price of the ride is over 60 million dollars. NASA wants to be able to send astronauts to space from U.S. soil. Now the goverment is asking Congress for 821 million to pay U.S.companies to build spaceships so NASA can use them. But
some people think NASA should instead build its own spaceships and use
them. What do you think should NASA pay companies or not.We want to hear go to timeforkids.com/debate and choose your opinion.

The Deep Freeze
Did you know that in winter, the South region of the United States has been covered with ice and snow?
Well, in this year, the South Area was freezing because all the snow that was in the North Region came over to join us. Well, no one knows why, but what I know is that in Atlanta, about 50 school buses were actually stuck in the traffic by the accidents. Also, many people had to go to work, and you know what? They did not like the situation. Countries in the north of the United States had been actually warmer than here. Some people's responsibilities is to buy salt so that where most of the snow is located to, it will melt. All right, lets go now to the North Region of the USA, The temperatures in Embarras, Minnesota were about -35 F and even in some places dropped as low as -60 F.
Global Warming
What is global warming.
Global warming is when the earth heats up and effects many things in nature like; weather, glaciars, and pretty much any thing that could cause a negative effect on our little planet. Gloal warming is also many other things like rising seas and could potentialy cause droughts
How does it work?
It works when carbon is released into our atmosphere like when we use or do; Consuming electricity, Transportation, Building, and Deforestation. It also works naturally millions of years before humans during the Eocene epoch there wasn't any land at all but of course that was when our earth was very young.
What causes it and how can we help?
Global warming is caused when carbons and fossil fuels are burned and released into our atmosphere. There are many things you can do at home that can help reduce global warming like;walk instead of drive, use less water, and use solar power (sun) hydro power (water) and wind power. A few companies are creating new and creative ways to save energy by creating wave power.
Go to
http://environment.about.com/od/globalwarming/tp/globalwarmtips.htm
to learn more ways to reduce global warming.
What are the points of view?
There are many points of view with global warming. Many people believe that global warming is not happening because some places have had their coldest winters on record. Others do believe that global warming is indeed happening becaus the Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting—for example, Montana's Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, versus 150 in 1910. In the Northern Hemisphere. Also Coral reefs, which are highly sensitive to small changes in water temperature, suffered the worst bleaching—or die-off in response to stress—ever recorded in 1998, with some areas seeing bleach rates of 70 percent. Experts expect these sorts of events to increase in frequency and intensity in the next 50 years as sea temperatures rise. Earth does go through earth faces in which earth goes through natrual warming and cooling, which can explain the current trends. Here are a few opinions about global warming
Global Warming, Climate Change or whatever you would like to call it is nothing more than a hoax, that is being promoted by those that stand to make millions of Dollars on the backs of hard working American People. Al Gore, Barack Obama and the rest of the Libs are after your money, plain and simple. The fact that so many people have bought into this scam is simpily amazing. The Dems know that if you tell a lie often enough, folks will begin to believe it. FOLKS WAKE UP!! We are about to lose it all based on these lies!!
http://www.webcommentary.com/climate/climate.php
The Copenhagen climate conference in December is being assembled in order to replace the disfunctional Kyoto Accord on global warming. In doing so, the conferees, politicians and governmental appointees seek to impose a global governance and even impose a 2% tax/fee/fine on the GDP of all signatory nations. If the U.S. signs this, it means the beginning of the end of the American Way of Life.
What is global warming connected to?
Global warming is connected to pollution because pollution puts carbon in the atmosphere and carbon causes global warming. Global warming is also connected to Eocene Epoch where there was no land and global warming melts the polar ice caps and that creates more water then land.
How is global warming changing?
Global warming will forever be changing because as our population grows we will be sending more carbon into our atmosphere ;Also Earth goes through many climate changes so this event could just be one of them.
I learned what global warming is,how it is changing, what causes it, and how we can help.
Barack Obama's State Of The Union Speech
Have you seen Barack Obama's State Of The Union speech or read about it? If you haven't, here are some things I learned about it.
President Barack Obama is raising the minimum wage for some federal workers, creating a new way for people to save money for retirement, and encouraging the use of alternative fuels for the good of the enviroment.
Barack Obama is connected to the U.S people, because he is making a new way of saving money, and doing something good for the enviroment. So he is thinking about others and the enviroment. He changing the way we save money and help the enviroment.
My teacher's perspective (Mrs.Ledger) is that this reminds her of JFK's speech where he said, "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country."
He sounds like an IB learner as he talks about action. She also says that she is eager to see his plan for alternative fuels because thats something we are learning in 5th grade. My perspective on his speech is that I like his idea to create a way to save money for people who have retired and using alternative fuels to help the enviroment. I totally agree with him and I stand on his side.
My responsibility is to follow his rules and respect him.
From reading and researching about his speech, I learned that he is trying to help the enviroment and raising minimum wages.
Thanks for reading,

Banding Penguins
Have you ever heard about penguin chicks becoming extinct? Well you're about to find out. A group of scientist flew to Antarctica to research penguin chicks and their colonies.
Scientists researched the chicks by putting a small metal band with a number on the chick's left wing. The number on the chick's wing would help scientists and researchers answer some very important questions. They then weighed the chick's wing and measured it also.
The cause of the expedition was to band penguin chicks and their colonies by putting small metal bands around their wings.
The penguins are connected to Antarctica but , the bad news is that the penguin chicks might become endangered or extinct.
My teacher, Ms. Ledger's perspective is that it reminds her of an important thing called conservation. "My favorite President, Teddy Roosevelt worked towards preserving land & these people are working to preserve a species and it's enviroment."
She also says that she is eager to see what happens next."My perspective is that I disagree on the idea of trying to band penguin chicks and that there is another solution out there that doesn't include banding them."
Our responsibility is to try our best to save penguin chicks from becoming extinct.
"From researching about this I learned that scientists should not try banding penguin chicks because they are very important to the enviroment."

Rainbow Loom
Have you ever used the Rainbow Loom? Well, it is super popular at the School at St. George Place, so I decided to research it. This is what I learned. The man who made the Rainbow Loom is Choon Ng and his daugters Theresa and Michelle ( they inspired the idea). The product they made was the Rainbow Loom.It is a bracelet making kit. Now,you are probably asking how it all got started well. I am about to anwser all your questions. It all started when Theresa and Michelle were 9 and 12. They were in their room making bracelets with rubber bands.Their father(Choon Ng) wanted to be a cool dad,but his fingers were to big for the rubber bands,so he came up with an idea.
Since he studied engineering he went in his basement got some pushpins,a scrape board, and made a bracelet. His daughters said ''That's cool, but I can do that by hand''.Then he started adding 2 or 3 rows, and that's when he got the idea. He told his daugters the idea and said he needed some help.

It started off as a small business and was sold at stores. Then the product started getting bought a lot then they we're selling them everywhere. Then Choon Ng said ''A simple idea my kids and I made up.
That's how the Rainbow Loom started."
